It is through the continuous giving and support of others that any of us advances in life. None of us has gotten to where we are today without the help of another. I believe there is excellence that awaits each and every one of us, and sometimes the help of another is needed to put us on that path. Physical activity and sports, health and education are powerful tenants in advancing communities, and are areas I enjoy supporting. Some of the organizations I am involved in include:

 

 

trillium     TRILLIUM GIFT OF LIFE NETWORK, ORGAN DONATION VOLUNTEER

Trillium Gift of Life Network was created to help save and enhance lives by maximizing organ and tissue donations for transplantation. Organ donation from one individual can help up to eight others. Tissue donation from one individual can help up to 75 others. And living donation is becoming an increasingly important source of organs for transplant.

 

 

cocCANADIAN OLYMPIC COMMITTEE, OFFICER, ATHLETES' COMMISSION

The Athletes’ Commission represents the voice of athletes to the Canadian Olympic Committee Board of Directors and is instrumental in presenting Canadian athletes’ perspectives on policy and program decisions, such as Olympic Team selection, athlete funding and other matters concerning high performance sport in Canada.

TORONTO 2015 PAN/PARAPAN AMERICAN GAMES, ATHLETE ADVISORY COUNCIL, VICE-CHAIR

The TO2015 Athlete Advisory Council supports and represents the views and interests of world-class athletes to help ensure best performances at the Toronto 2015 Games. Comprised of representation from Olympic, Paralympic, Pan Am and Parapan Am athletes, the Council will also help shape programs to enhance the athlete experience, encourage community engagement and create and intimate and authentic Games experience.

 

jumpstartCANADIAN TIRE JUMP START, ATHLETE AMBASSADOR

One in three families cannot afford the cost of having their kids in sports. Sport offers a multitude of benefits, and I emphatically believe no child should be denied this opportunity. Providing the opportunity to participate in sports we are positively changing the future and culture of Canada!  The Canadian Tires Jumpstart program is dedicated to affording the opportunity to participate in sports for all youths.  This is truly a remarkable program in place!

 

Kidsport     KIDSPORT ONTARIO, ATHLETE AMBASSADOR

KidSport™Canadais a national not-for-profit organization that provides financial assistance for registration fees and equipment to kids aged 18 and under.  KidSport Canada believes in the values and benefits of kids playing organized sports and knows that sport will provide them with the opportunity to become physically active, improve their self-esteem and self-confidence, learn life-long skills, improve their academic performance. make new friends and share and celebrate their culture.

Sports Day in Canadais a national celebration of sport, from grassroots to high-performance levels, in communities across the country. Sports Day in Canadais presented by CBC Sports, ParticipACTION and True Sport and is guided by a committee of national sporting organizations and their networks of coaches, athletes and enthusiasts across the country. It’s an opportunity for all Canadians to celebrate the power of sport to build community, fortify our national spirit and facilitate healthy, active living.

Katerva is a charity that recognizes, awards and accelerates ingenious ideas which enhance the world to have a positive and sustainable planet.  As a research member I review and assess the merits of nominees to be considered for this magnanimous award.  Katerva Challenge is a new initiative, with a long-term goal of becoming as prestigious as the Nobel Peace Prize, while inspiring others to make the world a better place.
